Cross-drilled rotors are used mostly to enhance the performance aesthetic of your car. Slotted or blank rotors have greater capacity to store heat so we prefer those for track and racing use. Cross-drilled rotors still have their place as a design that looks great with no detrimental effects under normal street use. Many sports car manufacturers still use drilled rotors because of their sporty looks while knowing they don't lose any effectiveness during normal driving. The holes into the vanes do offer an advantage in wet conditions where the water has an easy escape from the rotor surface.

Zimmermann Z-Coat rotors are the same size as stock BMW rotors but include an anti-corrosion phosphate coating that resists rust. Uncoated aftermarket or OEM rotors will quickly rust on the middle hat and inner vanes. Zimmermann Coated rotors are made in Germany and can be found as original equipment on some Mercedes, Porsche, and Volkswagen models.
